Mazdutide is a lab-made peptide designed to act on two hormone receptors involved in appetite and energy use: GLP-1 and glucagon. It has moved further through clinical testing than most peptides discussed online.
What the trial looked at
- The GLORY-1 phase 3 trial enrolled Chinese adults with overweight or obesity and compared mazdutide groups with a placebo group over 48 weeks.
- The investigators reported larger average reductions in body weight in the mazdutide groups than in the placebo group.
- They also reported changes in waist size, blood pressure and blood fats as secondary measures.
- Stomach-related side effects — nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting — were the most common, and were described as mostly mild to moderate.
What it does not tell us
The trial ran in one country, in a defined group of adults, under medical supervision with pharmaceutical-grade material. Long-term outcomes such as heart health were not the main question, and results in other populations had not been published at the time of writing.
Mazdutide is not licensed as a medicine in the United Kingdom. It holds no MHRA marketing authorisation and is not approved for human or animal use.
