DSIP

Also cited in the literature as Delta sleep-inducing peptide

A peptide isolated from rabbit brain in the 1970s. Early sleep findings were never reliably reproduced.

Regulatory status: Not licensed as a medicine in the United Kingdom. It holds no MHRA marketing authorisation, has no approved indication, and is not approved for human or animal use.

What it is

DSIP is a peptide of nine amino acids, first isolated in the 1970s from the blood of rabbits whose brains were being stimulated during sleep research.

How researchers think it works

Papers proposed effects on sleep regulation and on stress hormones, but no agreed receptor or mechanism was established.

What has research seen in people?

The human studies are from the 1970s and 1980s, involved only a handful of participants, and reported changes in sleep recordings and reported pain.

Later research did not reproduce those findings consistently.

By current standards the evidence is too weak to say anything about effects in people.

Veritide does not sell or supply anything. This links to a third-party UK laboratory supplier; we may earn a commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you. Materials are sold for laboratory research use only and are not licensed medicines.

What studies have found

  • Small human studies from the 1970s and 1980s reported changes in sleep recordings and in reported pain, mostly in a handful of participants.
  • Later research did not reproduce those findings consistently, and interest largely faded.

What we still do not know

  • The human literature is old, small and methodologically weak by current standards.
  • No modern controlled trials had been published at the time of writing.
